5…For Your Friday – 8/19/16

Team,
I hope you all had a wonderful week.  It was great to see many of you when I was in Hoffman this week.  I am looking forward to my trip to Winter Park next month to connect with the rest of you.
What our competitors are doing.
Some nice enhancements to the Porch.com offering.  Take a look and let me know if you see anything we should be doing.  Do our installers get a discount for tools at Sears?
Costco as customer’s best friend.
Insightful article into some of the history of Costco as well as their guiding philosophy.  A must read for all of us as Costco is our largest customer behind Sears.
A Meetings Manifesto
In my last job I had a habit and reputation of declining meetings unless there was a pre-published agenda.  I have been hesitant to do that here, but this article reminded me of the value of creating a team culture of respecting everyones time.
Book that I am enjoying.
Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less.
Pretty fast read, but will challenge you too look at your commitments in both your professional life and personal life.  As yourself – “Is this the very most important thing I should be doing with my time and resources right now?”
Quote that I like.
“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.”  – Charlie Jones
