5…For Your Friday – 1/20/17

Tip of the Top Hat to you,

Greeting of the day as a “gentlemen’s gesture” in honor of John Quincy Adams, who was the first President to wear long trousers at his inauguration.  Thus ending the era of presidential knee britches forever (hopefully).  Long trousers plus the top hat = classy look.

Who do you think of when you hear the word “successful?”

Mark Bustos is a very successful high-end hair dresser in NYC.  On his day off he cuts the hair of homeless people in New York and writes about their stories.  After a review of his social media accounts, I was inspired by the passion behind what he does and how it makes a difference.  What are you passionate about?  What can you give to those around you?

Ted Talk that you should watch!

Sometimes I listen to Ted Talks on the app, but this one is worth watching because of the messages she delivers with her poses and eyes.  What can someone help you with?  Will you be brave enough to ask for help?

Good luck to those of you with tween girls in the house…

I have 2 girls in this age range so this article really spoke into my world in a deep way.

A book that survived my deep skepticism – The One Thing by Gary Keller

I set aside my prejudices against books with titles that are designed to catch the eye (4 Hour Work Week, I’ll Teach You to Be Rich, etc.) and picked up this book on the recommendation from a friend.  As I skimmed the book jacket and the Table of Contents alarms were going off in my head about how cliche’ and common the terms and thoughts were.  It seemed like I had seen LinkedIn headlines this very week covering every single chapter topic.  Despite all that baggage – this book delivers a crisp, clear message worth reading and putting into practice.  Each chapter could stand alone as a topic, but the power of the book is the way Gary ties it all together with powerful stories.  I really enjoyed the read and am glad I listened to my friend.
